For Christmas my lovely wife got me Gears of War 2, for the Xbox 360. In case you are unfortunate enough to have never played or (gasp) heard of Gears of War, it’s a third-person shooter, set in an alternate (future?) reality, where humanity faces near extinction at the hands of the evil Locust Horde.
So there’s your story. Based purely on gameplay, Gears 2 has been a fun way to relax after work or just kill a little time (and some bad guys, hi-oh!) on the weekends, and thus far one of my favorite games to date. I would even go so far as to say it’s as good as, if not better than, Halo 3. I know. Here to buttress my high opinion of Gears 2 is this video review from Gametrailers.com. (As a caveat, Gears of War 2 is rated “M” for “mature”, and the review reflects this rating.)
Also, in case you happen to actually take my video game advice seriously, I recommend you play the first Gears of War (also on the Xbox 360) before getting Gears 2–the story and gameplay will make more sense, plus you’ll get more enjoyment out of the experience as a whole.
